St Albans City's historic victory in the FA Cup match on 14 January 1928 against Dalwich Hamlet went down in the annals as a record-breaking one. This remains the highest number of goals scored by a single player in a losing FA Cup match.

Havant opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a goal from Danny Sullivan, but St Albans turned the game around: Sean Dean scored in the 22nd minute and Nicky Kaufman doubled the lead in the 35th minute. The Saints dominated in the second half, with Dean completing his brace in the 52nd minute and Tom Harris adding a fourth in the 78th minute. The visitors were unable to respond despite the pressure. St Albans had 58% possession and 14 shots on goal.

On 1 August 2022, St Albans City hosted Arsenal in a friendly match and lost 0-1, but Pablo Mari's goal in the 88th minute made bets on a draw or a narrow defeat profitable. The match at Clarence Park attracted 5,000 spectators.
