How to nurture your inner child

I'm going through the Artist's Way, a fantastic book (or course, as the author Julia Cameron puts it) to unblock my inner artist.

You'd ask, what has that to do with sustainability or change-making?

I firmly believe in the fact that we all have an inner artist in us... think about when you were a child and you made artwork after artwork without fearing judgement.

But when did you last pick up a paintbrush?

And getting in touch with your inner child and your inner artist it's not just for "creatives".

It can help your everyday life in so many ways whether you are a head of sustainability or a stay-at-home parent:

  • It makes your problem-solving more creative and collateral;
  • it provides ideas for your social media content;
  • it helps address your work challenges with more calm and clarity;
  • it gives you a breather from the bad news and negativity of the world around you;
  • it builds your resilience;
  • it enriches and expands your life sideways.

My favourite way to do that is to draw while listening to audiobooks or podcasts in bed in the evenings - the video below shows my current progress with a portrait of Audrey Hepburn I'm drawing on my iPad.

But you could wear a colourful outfit that is gathering dust in the closet.

Grab a few magazines and a glue stick and collage a vision board.

Dance to your teenage years' favourite music in the kitchen.

Cook a beautiful cake from scratch.

Take your inner child to a fun experience or a concert.

Whatever makes your inner child happy.

Just do it.

It's the best way to say to yourself: I love you and you are worthy of time, care and attention.
