As you might also know, I have started writing a book on communicating sustainability.
This is technically my third book, and there is always an initial phase in my writing process that feels clunky.
I have lots of great ideas, but then, when I sit down to write, it feels like I'm on the dentist's chair and he's pulling my teeth.
It just doesn't flow - and I love writing!
There is some hidden friction that makes it difficult to make the ideas travel from my brain onto the page.
By now I know that I have to push through and write some more. Eventually, I will discover where the friction comes from.
Sometimes, is a lack of clarity. At some point, I have to restructure my ideas to find the true logic between my scattered ideas.
More often, friction is due to some emotional blockage connected to what I'm doing.
When something doesn't flow in your work, when it is hard for you to actually do what you are set to do, analyse your tasks and ask yourself:
Where does the friction come from?
What am I resisting?
What can I do to make it flow?
Or perhaps you are forcing yourself to do something that doesn't play to your strengths... in which case, can you give it to someone else to do or can you let go of this task altogether so that you can focus on your flow activities?
