Most people set priorities in relation to their ongoing projects and emails, without questioning most of them.
But this leads to neverending to-do lists, in which everything ends up being a priority.
In one of the past newsletters, I shared with you the Eisenhower matrix as a way to decide whether something is worth your time, based on urgency and importance.
Now, let's add another layer that will hopefully give you a powerful axe to slash your to-do list and really do meaningful work.
Let me introduce you to the Why, How, Who and What of priority setting.
Why do you need to do this particular task?
Does it align with your bigger, long-term goals?
If not, rethink whether you need to do it at all.
Who can do it (if not you)? Can you delegate it to someone else?
How are you going to carry out this task?
Can you automate it? Or can you allocate a defined amount of time so that is done and dusted quickly?
Finally, what is the actual task you have to do? Can you define its scope precisely, so you don't get sidetracked and you know exactly what you need to do to accomplish it?
